Yamunotri is a beautiful town famous for the most religious hindu Shrine of “Yamunotri Dham” located in the Uttarkashi District in the state of Uttarakhand. This town is located at an elevation of 3294 mts above the sea level and surrounding by the mountains Rangar or Garhwal Hills from all sides. The destination is ideal for Trekking and Rock climbing and full of Nature beauty. The Yamunotri Temple is one of the major and prime attractions of the place which attract thousand of the devotees and tourists from all around the country. It is one of four Chardham and a pilgrimage destination situated on the Bandar Poonch Parvat. Goddess Yamunotri is the daughter of God “Son” and sister of God “Yum”. Yamunotri is the origin point of the holy river Yamuna and lies on the left bank. The River Yamunotri is originates from Champasar Glacier situated at a distance of 1 km from the holy temple. The temple has a great history it is believed that A great sage “Asit Muni”who used to take bath every day in the holy River Ganga but when he become old and unable to reach Ganga so the Goddess Ganga appeared on the opposite site of Yamunotri. There is a pond where confluence of River Ganga and Yamuna are found. The temple is open on the day of Akshya Tritiya and close after two days of Diwali on the day of Bhai Duj. Kharsali is the winter home of Goddess Yamuna Due to heavy Snowfall the Yamunotri Dham is close and the idol is transferred in Kharsali Village for next six months and worshiped. From Hanuman Chatti you can take a trek of 6 km to reach Yamunotri Temple and the trekking is introduced you with nature beauty from all side. Janki Chati, Surya Kund, Hanuman Chatti, Saptarishi Kund, Divya Shila etc are the other major attraction of the place and makes the destination more precious and attractive.
The best time to visit from May to June and again September to till November. The destination is well connected by Air, Roads and Railways. Several Dharamshalas, hotels and Ashrams are available here with nominal Prise. Simple and vegetarian foods are available here. It is an ideal destination for trekking and Rock climbing and also ideal for family and friends.
