The town is famous for its religious importance among the devotees. Shri Badrinath Ji Temple is situated in Badrinath by the great hindu philosopher Adi Shankracharya in 9th Century. Thousands of devotees visit Badrinath to get the blessing of Lord Vishnu. The Neelkanth Peaks provides the shadow as a backdrop. The temple is lies on the bank of Alaknadna River in chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand. Badrinath Dham is one of the most preferred and most important pilgrimage destinations in India. Adi Shankaracharya found a Black Shaligram idol of Lord Vishnu in the Alaknanda River and situated in a cave but the recent temple built by the King of Garhwal and moved the idol in the present temple in the 16th century. At present the 15 idols are situated in the temple and each built in black stone. Lord Vishnu idol in meditation position and flanked by the Nar and Narayan. Thousands of the devotees visit this pilgrimage site to remove their sins and get the blessings of Lord Vishnu. The temple is opened in the month of last week of April or First week of May on the day Akashya tritIya and till October the devotees visit the shrine. The temple is close after two days of Diwali on the day of Bhai Duj. Badrinath temple is divided into three parts like- Garbha Grih, Darshan Mandap and Sabha Mandap. Due to Heavy Snowfall the temple is closed but the idol is brought in joshimath town in the Vasudev temple. The next six month the idol is worshiped in Joshimath to till the end of winters. Joshimath is the winter seat of Badrinath ji. Badrinath is one of panch badris and other for are- Old Badri, Yogdhyan badri, Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri situated near the Badrinath. Apart from a religious place it offered the trekking like Satopanth Trek, Mana Trek and Charanpaduka Trek. There are several attractions but the major attraction is “Tapt Kund“, a hot water spring inside the Temple complex and it is believed that the water has medicinal properties. Devotees boil the rice and potato and serve as a Prasad. The other attraction is Mata Murthi Ka temple dedicated to mother of Lord Badrinath and a big fair is held in the Mata Murthi temple in the month of September. The town offered the various Ashrams, Dhramshalas and hotels for stay and delicious foods are available here.
