Yamunotri is the second most sacred River in India. It is believed that the Yamunotri Temple was built by the King of Tehri Naresh Sudarshan Shah in 1839. But the present temple was constructed by the Maharani Guleriya of Jaipur in early 19th century.
Best Time to Travel: Every year in the last week of April or first week of May on the day of Akashya Tritiya the temple opens and close after two days of Diwali on the day of Bhai Duj. May to till June is the best time to visit. Monsoon takes place from July to August here. September to till Diwali is again best time to visit. During the winters when the roads blocked due to heavy snowfall then the idol of Goddess Yamuna brought down to Kharsali village in Lord Shani Temple for next six months. Kharsali is the winter seat of Goddess Yamuna.
Trekking Route Information: One can reach the temple after a trekking of 6 km from Janki Chatti. Apart from a religious destination it also offered the best options for trekking. There is also an option of hiring horses and ponies to climb up. Most of the time the major parts gets covered with snow so one should carry heavy or light woolen clothes whenever he is travelling to Yamunotri.
