Kedarnath is a famous for “Kedarnath Temple” abode of Lord Shiva. In the form of Bull Hump Lord Shiva is situated here. Kedarnath Dham is one of four Chardham and 12th jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva. This temple of Lord Shiva is highest jyotirlinga among them in India. Kedarnath is Dham of Lord Shiva and thousands of Devotees visit every year to get the blessing of “Bhole Nath”. The religious temple lies on the bank of Mandakini River. Kedarnath is one of the popular and most visited destinations. All over the world millions of hindu devotees visit this Dham. The temple is surrounding by the snow capped Himalayan range. Apart from a religious site it also offered the beautiful trek of 16 km from Gaurikund to Kedarnath. Gaurikund is the starting point of Kedarnath Trekking and the place got name after Goddess Parvati Wife of Lord Shiva. The temple is open in the last week of April or first week of May on the day of Akshya Tritiya and till open on the two days after Diwali on the day of Bhai Duj. Due to high elevation and snowfall the temperature is as low as 15 degree Celsius. Don’t forget to carry heavy woollen clothes during the visit. Days are quite hot but nights are chilly. Due to heavy snowfall Kedarnath is unreachable in winters so the idol of Kedarnath ji is brought in Ukhimath town. Ukhimath is winter seat of Kedarnath and the worshiped is performed in the Omkareshwar Temple for next six months. The Badri Kedar festival celebrate in june and one of the major festival celebrated here. The other Shravani Annakoot mela is held in the month of August. Apart from the kedarnath temple it also home of various religious attractions like Shankaracharya Samadhi, Gandhi Sarover, Vasuki tal, Gaurikung, Ratus kund etc. Kedarnath has no more facilities for accommodation only Govt Guest houses, Cottages and tents are available here.
