The town Kedarnath is popularly known for “Shri Kedarnath ji Temple”.Every year the temple opens on the last week of April or the first week of May and closes after two days of Diwali on the day of Bhai Duj.During the winters when the roads blocked due to heavy snowfallthen the idol kept on the Ukhimath village for the next six months.According to the legend, it is believed that the temple was built by Pandawas and found by Adi Shankracharya in 8th century. Bhima tried to hold the hump of Bull and where the hump of bull appeared that location is called Kedarnath Dham.

Every year thousands of the pilgrims visit kedarnath in the month of May. April to till mid of July and again September to till October is the best time to visit Kedarnath. Beautiful Neelkanth mountain peak adds the charm of the beauty.Gaurikund is the starting point of trekking to reach Kedarnath Shrine.It also one of the most important visiting places where 18 km trekking starts to reach Kedarnath and the place is dedicated to Goddess Parvati wife of Lord Shiva.Gandhi Sarovar, Phata, Sonprayag, Gaurikund Temple, Vasuki Tal, Shankracharya Samadhi, Triyugi Narayan Temple and Bhairav Temple and many more are the other major attractions of the place.The temperature of the place is chilly and cool. Don’t forget to carry heavy woolen clothes during the Yatra. There are GMVN (Govt.) tent house and cottages available near Kedarnath shrine for stay. Normal and vegetarian foods are available here. Jolly Grand Airport and Rishikesh Railway station are the nearest Airport or Railway Station to Kedarnath.
