Every year the Kedarnath & Badrinath temple opens in the last week of April or first week of May, on the other hand Yamunotri & Gangotri opens on the auspicious day of Akashya Tritiya which falls in the month of April or May. All temple closes after two days of Diwali on the day of Bhai Duj. May to June and again September to till Diwali is the best time to take part in the yatra. From July to August monsoon take place here with heavy rainfall. Winters are harsh here so don’t forget to carry heavy woolen clothes during yatra. During the winters when the roads blocked after diwali then the idols are brought down to nearest villages. Kedarnath and Badrinath brought down to Ukhimath & Joshimath villages. On the other hand the idol of Yamunotri & Gangotri is brought down to Kharsali & Mukhwa for next six months and worshiped.
Badrinath: Badrinath is a most religious part of Chardham dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Badrinath is a highest temple of Lord Vishnu in India. It is situated in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand. According to the legend it is said that Adi Shankaracharya was found a black shaligram idol in Alaknanda River then after the idol was transferred to Badrinath. The idol found in Alaknanda is in the meditation posture and flanked by Nar and Naryan. Badrinath Temple stands strong in between two majestic mountains Nar and Narayan. It is also said that Lord Badri meditation here and Goddess Lakshmi converted herself into a berry tree to protect him from heat and cold. Badrinath temple was established by Adi Shankracharya in 9th century. River Alaknanda increase the charm of the place which flow near the temple.
Kedarnath: Kedarnath is a Hindu pilgrimage destination dedicated to Lord Shiva holds great faith among the devotees. Kedarnath is one of Chardham and one of 12th Jyptirlingms in India. Kedarnath is the highest Temple of Lord Shiva located in Rudraprayag district in the state of Uttarakhand. River Mandakini increased the charm of the place and a sacred river located near Kedarnath Temple. According to the legend it is said that existence of Kedarnath Temple is the result of Pandavas search of Lord Shiva. When Pandavas killed all his own brothers in the war then they feel guilt and decided to wash all the sins. Then they started worship of Lord Shiva but Lord Shiva refused their request and converted himself into a bull and tried to run away. Bhima one of Pandavas was able to catch hump of Bull. Where the hump of bull appeared which location is called Kedarnath. The rest part of the bull appeared in the other locations are called Panch Kedar.
Gangotri: Ganga is the most sacred River in India holds great faith among the devotees. Gangotri temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga situated in Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand. According to the legend it is said that King Bhagirathi did serious penance to impress Goddess Ganga for Moksha for his ancestor. After 1000 year penance Goddess Ganga agree to come down on earth. Then Lord Shiva agreed to lock Goddess Ganga in this hair. River Ganga is known as Bhagirathi in Gangotri but after Devprayag when it meets in Alaknanda then got its name Ganga. The present Temple was constructed by Gurkha Commander Amar Singh Thapa. Gaumukh Glacier is the origin point of River Ganga situated at a distance of 19 km from main temple of Gangotri. It is a beautiful white marble temple attracts thousands of devotees.
Yamunotri: Yamunotri Temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna situated in Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand. Yamuna is daughter of God Sun and sister of Lord Yama (God of death). The present temple was built by the Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in 19th century. River Yamuna flow near the temple and the second most sacred river in India. The charming surrounding, thick forests, pleasant weather, Greenery, river Yamuna, Snow capped Himalayan peak and lots of devotees adds the charm of the place.
